The man with the power!
Barack Obama is the new president of the United States since January 20 of 2009, and he is the first black president.
Barack Hussein Obama jr. is the son of the white American Ann Dunham and a black Kenyan father, Barack Obama sr. and he was born on August 4, 1961.
After his father left to study at Harvard, he lived alone with his mother and later he went to Hawaii to live with his grandparents. Despite that his grandparents didn’t have a lot of money, he manage to get into Hawaii’s to prep academy, Punahou School. He was one of three black students, and it was here Obama firs noticed the racism and what it meant to be an African-American. He graduated with honors in 1979. Later on he attended Harvard Law school, were he also became the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law review in 1990. Because of this leadership he got in the review, he could get a job in any top Manhattan law firms if he wanted to, but he declined.
During the time as the Law Review he got an offer to write a book. The result became the book “Dreams from my father: A story of race and Inheritance” and it was published by Times Books in 1995. But Obama wasn’t interested in a career as an author. Instead he wanted to run for a seat in the Illinois state senate, which he also did. In 1996, Obama won the election and went on to a career in the Senate chambers in Springfield.
In 2000, Barack made his first bid for U.S. Congress. He then challenged Bobby Rush, a former Chicago City Council member and a well-known black politician, for his seat in the U.S. House of representatives.
In 1989, he meets soon to be his wife and now the First Lady of the Unites States, Michelle Robinson, now known as Michelle Obama. In 1998, the couple got their first daughter, Malia Ann. And in 2001, they got their second daughter, Natasha aka Sasha.
After being in the senate for some years, Barack Obama announced on February 10, 2007 that he would run for presidency in the U.S. in front of the Old State Capital building in Springfield, Illinois. This was an historic place to announce his candidacy, because it was at the exactly same place as Abraham Lincoln held his historic speech “House Divided” in 1858.
From the very first beginning, Obama said out loud that he was against the Iraq war, and this gave him a chance in the Democratic Party.
Because of Barack Obama’s power to thrill the people, combined with a good technological and advanced campaign made it possible for the Obama team to collect a record of money for his campaign. The money was used to get a lot of publicity and partly to finance the greatest campaign machine U.S. had ever seen.
When it at last stood to finals for the presidency, it was time to choose a vice-president candidate as well. Barack Obama and the republican, John McCain was the final two. Many thought that Barack probably would choose Hillary Clinton as his vice-president after roomers had said that they had a deal that they would choose each other. But Obama chocked and announced on August 23, 2008, that he had chose Joe Biden as his vice-president candidate. And shockingly, John McCain chooses Sarah Palin, which someone would describe as his biggest failure and leading him to loose the election, making Barack Obama the new president of the United States of America.
On November 4, 2008, it was announced that Barack Obama had won 365 of the electoral votes to John McCain’s 173 and he became the first African American to ever be elected President of the United States of America. The Obama family is the first black family in the White House. So what now, would the White House change name to be the Black House?
